Ireland: Week 4

Unbelievably I have been living an Ireland for a whole month already! While I’ve gotten very comfortable and feel like I’ve been living here forever, it also feels like this past month has gone by in a blink of an eye.

I’ve picked up on some fun Irish lingo while living here. A lot of people will say “that’s gas” meaning “that’s funny.” Or they’ll say something is “crack” or “a bit of crack” meaning something is fun or a good time.

Fashion over here is a lot more nice and put together. It seems like people really take care in putting together their outfits in the morning, even if it’s just for going to classes. It seems like everyone is dressed super cute and I feel like the wardrobe I brought from the states is severely lacking. This also means that for nights out, going to the pub, or clubbing people get really dressed.

Getting used to the University life here has been a bit challenging. There is barely any homework and only one test per class at the end of the semester. It really puts the responsibility of learning on the student and gives you a lot of free time. That, combined with the fact that I don’t have a job, has really opened up my schedule. This is great because it allows me to go and see more of Ireland on weekends and get to the gym almost everyday.

However, all of this free time can sometimes make it hard to be so far from home. When I spend the day just working out, watching Netflix and not doing much, it makes me feel like its not worth being so far from my loved ones. Going on day trips with friends, hiking with the UCC mountaineering club, and just staying active in general has helped with this feeling. All in all, the benefits out weigh the cons and the distance isn’t permanent. Most days I enjoy the experience of living here, and just soak in the fact that I am living in Ireland!
